The Completion Ceremony Held for “the Project for Improving An Duong Water Treatment Plant in Hai Phong City”,
a Japanese Grant Aid Project of Official Development Assistance (ODA) to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
On 12th May 2023, the completion ceremony for “the Project for Improving An Duong Water Treatment Plant in Hai Phong City” (the “Project”) was held. The ceremony was attended by approximately 150 participants, including representatives from the Government Office of Vietnam, Hai Phong City People's Committee, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (“JICA”) Vietnam Office, the Embassy of Japan in Vietnam, and the city of Kitakyushu.
This Project was awarded to a joint venture of Kobelco Eco-Solutions Co., Ltd. (“KES”) and Sankyu Inc., and its construction contract was concluded in August 2018 between the joint venture and Hai Phong Water Joint Stock Company as a Japanese Official Development Assistance (“ODA”) project funded by the JICA.
"The An Duong Water Treatment Plant is the largest water treatment plant in Hai Phong City (capacity 200,000 m3/day※2).Before the implementation of this Project, the plant faced problems such as deterioration of raw water quality caused by environmental pollution and climate change. The "U-BCF (Upward Flow Biological Contact Filtration)" system delivered this time is an advanced water treatment technology jointly developed by the Kitakyushu City Water and Sewer Bureau and KES, which enables cost-efficient and effective removal of soluble pollutants and organic matters in raw water, as well as reduction of chlorine usage.
