Kobelco Eco-Solutions awarded contract for
Project for improving An Duong Water Treatment Plant

Kobelco Eco-Solutions Co., Ltd. signed a contract with Haiphong Water Joint Stock Company (HPW)*1 for the Project for Improving An Duong Water Treatment Plant in Hai Phong City, Vietnam, under a Japanese grant aid provided by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). This project is executed by the joint venture with Sankyu Inc.

An Duong Water Treatment Plant with a capacity of 100,000 m3/day is the largest water purification plant in Hai Phong City. The water purification plant has the problem of raw water quality deterioration caused by sewage contamination in the water source. An Upward Flow Biological Contact Filtration (U-BCF) technology will be newly introduced in this project in order to solve the issue.

The U-BCF is classified as an advanced water treatment technology; the biological treatment is used prior to a water purification process. With continued urbanization, water sources near an urban area tend to be deteriorated by sewage contamination in South East Asia. Such area has no choice but to newly develop a water source far away from an urban area.
As an alternative solution to such long-distance raw water transmission facility, U-BCF technology can effectively remove a water-soluble pollutants at low cost, and furthermore contribute to reduction of organic matter and chlorine usage.

Based on accumulated experience and project record, Kobelco Eco-Solutions will continue to develop an international water and infrastructure business, utilizing the technology that fits South East Asia including Vietnam.
