Water Treatment Plant Funded by Our JV Company in Cambodia Holds Prayer Ceremony for Safety of The Construction Work
〜Doubling Capacity to Meet Growing Demand for Water Supply〜
On March 27, 2023, SOMA KOBELCO WATER SUPPLY CO., LTD., a joint venture company formed by Kobelco Eco-Solutions Co., Ltd. and the Cambodian private-sector SOMA Group*1 (“JV Company”), held a prayer ceremony for safety for “Expansion Project of Koh Dach Water Purification Plant”, in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. The JV Company has an exclusive water-supply business license in its designated area. Around 20 people attended the ceremony, including the representative of local residents.
The original water purification plant has been supplying tap water for approximately 20,000 people in Koh Dach and Koh Oknha Tei districts in Phnom Penh, Cambodia since December 2019. As the water demand has exceeded the original plan after three years of the plant start-up, the capacity of the water purification plant needs to be expanded.
In this expansion project, our Auto Siphon Filter (ASF*2) is also introduced, as in the Koh Dach original plant, because ASF is well valued in respect of stable water treatment quality and easier maintenance work. The construction work is planned to be completed in a shorter period of approximately 3 months by adopting a standardized ASF.
This is our tenth water purification plant project in Cambodia. This year, we were selected as a demonstration entity for overseas sewage technology demonstration project, by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism of Japan, and have completed the installation of a sewage treatment facility. Now, we are prepared to propose packaged solutions for both water purification and sewage treatment in combination in Cambodia.

businesses. In 2018, they established a water supply company, SOMA KOBELCO WATER SUPPLY CO., LTD. which provides water supply services to approximately 20,000 people in the suburbs of Phnom Penh.

(*2) Automatic Siphon Filter. Our unique gravity-type rapid filtration system has the function to backwash the
filter by utilizing siphon effect. The system requires less number of component equipment, which can reduce the maintenance work volume as well as its electricity consumption.
